Tap
Tap evolved from a variety of dance forms including the Irish jig, various types of African dance, Spanish flamenco, and English clogging. The percussive sound is made from metal taps on the bottom of the shoe. Tap classes encompasses many forms of tap dancing ranging from the original style seen in Vaudeville and on Broadway to more modern and innovative interpretations.Tap classes can be performing or non-performing. Students in performing groups will participate in Festivals and/or competitions. All tap classes will participate in Vanleena’s year-end recital, "On Stage."
Performing Tap JR’s-
These classes are designed for 12 and under students that are interested in competitions and extra performance possibilities. It demands a commitment from both the child and parent as class attendance and competition attendance is very important for the group to excel and improve. Technique and rhythm exercises are taught and practiced using the bar, center floor and across the floor combinations.A dance routine is taught throughout the year so the students are well prepared for the first competitions beginning in March. It is most beneficial if the students are also taking Ballet, as the dance terminology used in Ballet crosses over to all styles and gives the young students a better posture and upper body expression.
Tap is a fun, fast and rhythmic art form, like being your own drum set. It's hard to be sad when you’re tapping.
