The Studio

The Studio Vanleena is situated at 1152 Welch Street near the foot of Pemberton Avenue and Welch Street. The school now has seven studios, a student lounge, a parent lounge, changing areas and lockers, a homework room for academic studies, two costume storage rooms, an on-site canteen for snack items and a fully-stocked store (Primadonna) that sells dancewear and dance shoes. Parking is available on the street as well as in the Vanleena parking lot on the perimeter of the building.

Performance

At Vanleena we believe that performing is an essential part of dance. We prepare all students for stage performance. Every student performs at least once a year in Vanleena’s year-end recital, On Stage, which is a three-day, four-performance event that is professionally produced. Students may choose to participate in many other performing opportunities offered by the school. Vanleena offers performing classes in jazz, hip-hop tap, musical theatre and lyrical and attend local festivals and dance competitions. The school also hosts the nightmare, an annual Halloween show (open to all students), as well as entering several local parades throughout the year. Vanleena is often asked to supply dancers for local events that range from charity fundraisers to seasonal events.
As part of their dance education, students are given instruction in hair and stage make-up as well as theatre etiquette. All students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at any performance or event.
