How do I know what level to put my child in if they are new to Vanleena?
Please contact the studio to have your child assessed.Are parents allowed to watch classes?
There are special parent viewing days organized by instructors. Parents are not generally permitted to watch classes as it is distracting to both the instructor and the other students.What do I do if my child is sick and has to miss class?
E-mail attendance@vanleena.com and leave your name, your instructor’s name, and class that you are unable to attend.My child wants to join a performing group, what do I do?
Contact the studio. It is sometimes possible to switch to a performing class if it is early in the year. To start a performing class the following September, please notify the studio before the dance year ends in June and your child will be assessed for placement the following September.What do the colours mean in the performing groups?
Children are grouped according to ability and experience; however the interaction of the group is also considered. In order to focus on the dance experience and not the “level,” we have chosen to identify the performing groups by colour as differentiating by level is not always appropriate or accurate.When are costumes ready?
Costumes for performing groups are usually ready any time from late December to February depending on the group’s festival schedule. Costumes for the year end recital On Stage in May are generally ready beginning at the end of April through to the recital.Does my child have to do RAD exams?
It is generally expected that all children enrolled in ballet classes will take the RAD exams; however, if your child is injured or has been ill and exemption may be made. Please contact Mrs. Lacasse or Mrs. Vanneck (604-722-6531) for more information.What is character dance?
Character dance is a required component of the RAD syllabus from Grades One through Eight. The style is based on the national and ethnic dances found in Hungary, Russia, and Poland because of their historic contributions to the shaping of full-length ballets.Does my child have to take character dance?
Yes. All children in Grades One through Eight in RAD ballet take a character component during their ballet classes. Students must purchase a character skirt and character shoes. Please see the dress code.When are the exams?
RAD graded examinations are held at Vanleena in the spring. Dates are forwarded to us by the Royal Academy of Dance in London in early January.Vocational exams are held in the spring, summer and fall.
